RDP (Remote Desktop) lets you see and control your Windows server as if it were the computer in front of you. Everything runs in the data centre, 24/7 — even when your own PC is off.

Before you start: your login details

Open your ServerLoom dashboard, click Manage on your server and copy:

  • the IP address
  • the username — usually Administrator
  • the password

From a Windows PC

  1. Press Win + R, type mstsc and press Enter.
  2. Type your server IP and click Connect.
  3. Choose More choices → Use a different account, enter Administrator and your password.
  4. Accept the certificate warning the first time (tick “Don't ask me again”).
Windows CMD
mstsc /v:YOUR-SERVER-IP
Pro tip

Save the connection: in Remote Desktop click “Show Options → Save As” and you get a shortcut that connects in one double-click.

From a Mac

  1. Install Windows App (formerly “Microsoft Remote Desktop”) from the Mac App Store — it's free.
  2. Click + → Add PC and type your server IP.
  3. Under Credentials, add Administrator and your password, then double-click the PC to connect.

From an iPhone, iPad or Android phone

  1. Install Windows App from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Tap + → Add PC, enter the IP, then your username and password.
  3. Tap the PC to connect. Use two fingers to scroll and the keyboard icon to type.

Change your password (do this first!)

Inside a Remote Desktop session, press Ctrl + Alt + End (not Ctrl + Alt + Delete — that one goes to your own PC) and choose Change a password. Use at least 12 characters with letters, numbers and symbols.

Copy files to your server

  • Small files: copy on your PC (Ctrl + C) and paste on the server (Ctrl + V) — the clipboard is shared.
  • Big files or folders: before connecting, open Show Options → Local Resources → More… and tick your drive. It then appears in This PC on the server.

Common problems

  • “Your credentials did not work” — check the username is Administrator and your keyboard layout (QWERTY / AZERTY) when typing the password.
  • “Remote Desktop can't connect” — make sure the server is online in your dashboard and the OS install has finished.
  • Slow or blurry screen — in Show Options → Experience, choose a lower connection speed.
Careful

Never share your RDP password in Discord or with “helpers” you don’t know. Anyone with it controls your server.
