How to install a FiveM server with txAdmin on Windows (RDP)

From a fresh Windows VPS to a running FiveM city: download the server, open the right ports, start txAdmin and deploy QBCore or ESX — step by step.

In this guide you will install a FiveM server on a Windows VPS and manage it with txAdmin, the free web panel that comes with FiveM. No Linux knowledge needed — if you can use a Windows PC, you can do this.

What you need

  • A Windows Server VPS — for up to 32 players we recommend 4 vCores and 12 GB RAM, for 64 players 6 vCores and 16 GB.
  • A free FiveM license key from portal.cfx.re (log in with your Cfx.re account).
  • Your server IP, username and password — you find them in your ServerLoom dashboard.
  • About 20 minutes.
Pro tip

Short on time? Add the “txAdmin install” option (€1) when you order your FiveM VPS and our team does steps 2 to 5 for you.

Step 1: Connect to your server with Remote Desktop

  1. On your Windows PC, press Win + R, type mstsc and press Enter.
  2. Type your server IP and click Connect.
  3. Log in as Administrator with the password from your dashboard.

On a Mac or phone, use the free Windows App from Microsoft. Need help? See our guide How to connect to your Windows RDP server.

Step 2: Install the tools FiveM needs

Inside the server, open a browser and install these two free programs:

  • Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (x64) — the latest version from Microsoft. FXServer needs it to start.
  • 7-Zip — the FiveM server download is a .7z file.

Step 3: Download the FiveM server

  1. Create two folders: C:\FXServer\server (the program) and C:\FXServer\server-data (your city). The command below does it for you.
  2. Open the FiveM server artifacts page and download the build marked “LATEST RECOMMENDED” (server.7z).
  3. Right-click the file → 7-Zip → Extract files… and extract it into C:\FXServer\server.
PowerShell
# Run in PowerShell (as Administrator)New-Item -ItemType Directory -Force -Path "C:\FXServer\server", "C:\FXServer\server-data"

Step 4: Open the FiveM ports in the firewall

FiveM uses port 30120 (TCP and UDP) for players, and txAdmin uses port 40120 (TCP) for its web panel. Open them with these three commands:

PowerShell
New-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName "FiveM TCP" -Direction Inbound -Protocol TCP -LocalPort 30120 -Action AllowNew-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName "FiveM UDP" -Direction Inbound -Protocol UDP -LocalPort 30120 -Action AllowNew-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName "txAdmin" -Direction Inbound -Protocol TCP -LocalPort 40120 -Action Allow
Careful

Never open port 3306 (MySQL / MariaDB) to the internet. Your database only needs to be reached from the server itself.

Step 5: Start txAdmin

  1. Open C:\FXServer\server and double-click FXServer.exe.
  2. A console window opens and shows a 4-digit PIN and the txAdmin address. Open http://localhost:40120 in the browser on the server (or http://YOUR-SERVER-IP:40120 from your own PC).
  3. Enter the PIN, log in with your Cfx.re account and choose a strong txAdmin password.

Step 6: Deploy your city with a recipe

txAdmin now asks how you want to set up your server:

  1. Choose Popular Recipes, then QBCore, ESX or CFX Default (a clean server without a framework).
  2. Set the data location to C:\FXServer\server-data.
  3. Paste your license key from portal.cfx.re.
  4. QBCore and ESX need a database. Install MariaDB from mariadb.org, choose a root password during setup, then enter in txAdmin: host 127.0.0.1, port 3306, user root and your password.
  5. Click Run Recipe and wait until it finishes, then Save & Run Server.

Your settings live in server.cfg inside your data folder. These are the most important lines:

server.cfg
sv_hostname "My ServerLoom City"sv_maxclients 48sv_licenseKey "your-license-key-here"sv_endpointprivacy trueset onesync on
Good to know

sv_endpointprivacy true hides your players’ IP addresses from other players — a simple step that protects your community.

Step 7: Join your server

  1. Start FiveM on your PC and press F8 to open the console.
  2. Type connect YOUR-SERVER-IP:30120 and press Enter.

After a few minutes your server also appears in the FiveM server list under the name you set in sv_hostname.

Troubleshooting

  • FXServer.exe closes right away — install the Visual C++ Redistributable (x64) and try again.
  • Players can't connect — check that the firewall rules from step 4 exist and that your license key is correct.
  • txAdmin page doesn't open from your PC — the port 40120 rule is missing, or you typed the wrong IP.
  • The recipe fails at the database step — check that MariaDB is running and the root password is right.
